Creative Sets: overview and setup
What Creative Sets and Visual Units are, how ordered and unordered frames differ, and how to get access.
Creative Sets let you assign a single creative, or multiple creatives, to a Visual Unit (VU). This enables programmatic trading on Visual Units that contain frames with different aspect ratios, sizes and motion types.
What a Visual Unit is
A Visual Unit is a collection of frames within a viewable area, such as a bus stop or a site, that are in sync. One or more advertisements from the same Advertiser, Brand and DSP play on all the connected frames at the same time.
Each Visual Unit has a primary screen, known as the leader, which controls the connected screens, known as followers.
What a creative set does
A creative set assigns creatives to the frames of a Visual Unit. A creative set is unique to a DSP, Advertiser and Brand combination, so every creative in a set must come from the same DSP, Advertiser and Brand.
How you assign creatives depends on how the Visual Unit is set up.
| Visual Unit setup | How creatives are assigned |
|---|---|
| Unordered frames | Frames with matching specifications are linked. You assign one creative to all linked frames |
| Ordered frames | Each frame has an order number. You can assign a different creative to each frame, even when the frames share the same specification |
| Frames with different specifications | You can assign a different creative to each frame |

Accessing Creative Sets
Creative Sets sit in the 'Content Management' section of VIOOH Trading Manager.
- Select 'Content Management' in the Menu Bar. The section opens on the 'Creatives' tab, which lists your uploaded creatives.
- Select the 'Creative sets' tab.
For more on the 'Creatives' tab, see The Content Management page.
Setting up ordered Visual Units
To assign different creatives to frames that share the same specification, the Visual Unit needs ordered frames. This requires two things: the right features enabled for your business, and a frame order in your asset data.
Enabling the features
The following features must be enabled via VIOOH Admin:
CREATIVE_SETSVISUAL_UNITS_ORDERINGvisualUnitsTranscodingResolutionEnabled, on the Moderation config
Work with your Technical Solutions Manager to make sure your VIOOH Trading Manager set-up meets the technical prerequisites and has Creative Sets enabled.
Important: without these features, you will not see the 'Ordering' filter, and you cannot assign different creatives to frames with the same specification within a Visual Unit.
Adding a frame order
For the system to tell frames apart, you must add the visualUnitOrder field to the DL_Template_06_AssetData data file in VIOOH Central.
The value must be a number from 1 to x, where x is the number of frames in the Visual Unit.
When you build a creative set, the order number appears at the top of each panel, showing the order the frames are mounted in.
