Deal line settings: targets, share of time and sweep
Set Share of Time, impression, budget and frame targets, and sweep options for a deal line.
Targets — Non-Guaranteed
When setting up a Non-Guaranteed deal line, you will see only one field in the 'Target' section: 'Share of Time'.
Important: if you set a target Share of Time (SOT), or a range, the 'Available Impression' number displayed in the Summary Panel is the maximum number of impressions that can be delivered if the SOT is achieved. SOT is not considered during trading, and you cannot control the volume of bid requests sent.
Targets — Guaranteed
When setting up a Guaranteed deal line, the 'Target' section allows you to specify explicit objectives.
For Guaranteed deal lines, you must specify either an 'Impressions' or a 'Budget' target, not both.
Use the 'Frames' field in the 'Target' section to specify a target number of frames.
Important: our allocation engine will always try to maximise the number of frames by default. We do not recommend setting a frame target to the maximum number of frames available.
Share of Time
The 'Share of Time' (SOT) and 'Sweep' fields allow you to influence the distribution of frames and hours when running the allocation engine (VAE) to get a solution.
Use the 'Share of time' field to specify a target SOT percentage other than the default.
Or specify a floor to ceiling SOT range for greater flexibility:
- Select the 'Add Floor to Ceiling SOT Range' toggle.
- Enter an SOT up to 2 decimal places, from 0.00% to 100.00%.
Tip: VAE will use values on the boundaries instead of finding interior solutions. For example, if you indicate a floor of 10% and a ceiling of 20%, VAE will more likely return solutions with 10% or 20% SOT.
Sweep
By default, the 'Sweep' option is set to 'Sweep-to-fill', meaning it will take any availability on a frame up to the default SOT, or an SOT you specify in the 'Share of time' field.
If you only want to be allocated frames with the exact SOT specified in the 'Share of time' field, select 'Target exact SOT' from the drop-down.
If you want to pick up more frames for your deal line, you can use any of the following options:
- All hour Sweep: checks the SOT in every hour of your deal line schedule. The system identifies any hours where other remaining frames have the required SOT available, and adds those frames during those hours to your deal line.
- All day Sweep: checks the SOT in every day of your deal line schedule. The system identifies any days where other remaining frames have the required SOT available, and adds those frames on those days to your deal line.
- Weighted Distribution: picks individual frame hours instead of using frames for the entire period. Even if a frame has the required SOT available, if it is not required to fulfil the targeting criteria, the frame hour is not selected.
Sweep Examples
These examples assume a 5-day deal line, targeting 3 frames, with an SOT target of 30%.
- 'Target Exact SOT' — the standard frame and SOT allocation. Frame 3 has not been selected, because the target SOT is not available for every day in the range.
- 'All Day Sweep' — picks up all the days where it can reach the 30% SOT target, so it picks up Frame 3 for days 1, 2 and 4.
- 'All Hour Sweep' — picks up all the hours where it can reach the 30% SOT target, so it picks up every hour on day 3 except 12:00 and 13:00.
- 'Weighted Distribution' — optimises your target by finding the best hours per frame based on your defined targets, so the system books certain hours with 30% SOT available until it has reached your defined impressions or budget target.
- 'Sweep-to-fill' — picks up every opportunity it can, so for the hours of 12:00 and 13:00 it will accept the 5% SOT and take it.
