Troubleshooting an underpacing Guaranteed campaign

Find the frame, hour and loss reason behind a campaign that is not delivering.

Use the 'Pacing' and 'Diagnostics' tabs together to find out why a Programmatic Guaranteed (PG) campaign is not delivering as expected. This article takes you through the steps in order.

Find the underpacing campaign

  1. Go to the 'Pacing' tab.
  2. Check the 'Live Underpacing Deals' widget for the number of live campaigns that are underpacing.
  3. In the 'Pacing Summary by Campaign ID / Deal Line ID' table, look at the 'Impression OSI' column. Campaigns are sorted from the lowest OSI to the highest. Red means delivery is under 98% of what was allocated to the frame and hour. Amber means between 98% and 99.9%.

Tip: the 'Loss Reasons by Campaign' chart on the 'Pacing' tab shows the loss reasons for all underperforming campaigns in one place.

Filter the dashboard to that campaign

  1. Right-click the Deal ID in the pacing summary table.
  2. Select 'Filter'.

The whole dashboard now shows data for that campaign only. The filter stays in place when you move to another tab.

Please note: if you have reallocated the deal line, also set the 'Latest Allocation' filter, so you only see data since the latest allocation.

Find the frame and hour that are not delivering

  • In the 'Hourly Impression OSI by Frame ID, Visual Unit ID, Product Format, Venue Taxonomy' table, look for frames or Visual Units with a low hourly OSI. A gap in the table means the frame was not allocated for that hour, not that it failed to deliver.
  • In the 'Traded Impressions, Expected Impressions & Impression OSI, over time' chart, compare traded impressions with expected impressions to see when delivery started to fall behind. Traded data runs up to the previous hour.

Find the loss reason

  1. Go to the 'Diagnostics' tab. The campaign filter is still applied.
  2. Review the 'Loss Reasons' chart to see which loss reasons have affected the campaign, by date.
  3. Check the 'Unsold Impressions' table to see unsold impressions by day and hour, broken down by Line ID, Frame ID and Creative ID.

Supply-related loss reasons lie on the Media Owner side, for example offline frames. A frame is considered offline if it has not sent any bid requests for a full hour.

Tip: for a detailed list of loss reasons, see the Loss Reason Glossary in the 'Helpful Resources' section of the Resource Centre.

If the loss reason relates to a creative

For a creative loss reason such as CREATIVE_FILTERED_DISAPPROVED:

  1. Right-click the 'Loss Reasons' chart and select 'Drill down'.
  2. Select 'Creative ID'.

The chart shows the Creative IDs affecting trading. To review those creatives, see Moderating creatives.

Get the campaign back on track

When a Guaranteed deal line's OSI falls below 100%, the 'Check Allocation' button in the Deal Form is renamed 'Reallocate', and the message "Your OSI is off track. Try reallocating your deal line to meet your target." is displayed. Select 'Reallocate' to rerun the allocation engine. See Reviewing a deal line: Action Bar and Summary Panel.

If the campaign includes out-of-charge frames, use the out-of-charge frames filter on the Campaign Management page to find the affected deal lines and reallocate them. See The Campaign Management page.
